El Dorado County is a well-known California winemaking region.
The area is home to about fifty different wineries that produce a wide range of varietals. Tourists come from all over the country to visit and taste the amazing results of winemakers’ efforts year after year. But if you’re a local and don’t want to visit a winery every time you want to buy a bottle of fine wine, where do you go?
Fortunately, there are some great fine wine shops here in El Dorado Hills and nearby Folsom. As both locals and wine enthusiasts ourselves, we have some suggestions for you if you’re not sure where to look for your next great bottle of wine.
Lake Forest Wines
Our top pick for local fine wine shops is Lake Forest Wines. Located on Francisco Drive in El Dorado Hills, Lake Forest Wines opened in 1998 and offers fine wine for purchase both in-store and online.
Their selection includes wine from all over California and select international choices as well. For example, if you’re looking for a bottle from El Dorado County, try the 2017 Rombauer Zinfandel.
If you prefer Napa Valley wines, affordable options like the 2014 Ramey Napa Cabernet Sauvignon and 2016 Emmolo Merlot are available. On the high end, don’t miss the 2013 Opus One Proprietary Red.
International wines include great choices like the 2009 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz from Australia, 2013 Altesino Brunello Di Montalcino Montosoli from Italy, and the 2006 Carruades de Lafite Bordeaux from France.
As a small family-owned business, Lake Forest Wines understands the importance of providing excellent customer service. In addition to wine, they offer a curated selection of fine spirits and beer as well.
Folsom Wine & Spirits
Located in the Folsom Pavilions shopping center, Folsom Wine & Spirits opened for business in 2015 and specializes in offering customers hard-to-find wines from all around the world.
While the store doesn’t offer wine and spirits for purchase online, they stay very active on social media. The staff regularly updates their Facebook page with specials, new additions, and offers that customers can take advantage of in-store.
If you are on the hunt for a great bottle of Champagne, for example, they recently posted an update letting customers know that Dom Perignon Vintage 2006 is in stock.
Total Wine & More
While not a locally-owned fine wine shop, we’d be remiss if we didn’t at least mention Total Wine & More as an option for local wine lovers.
Total Wine & More is located in Broadstone Plaza in Folsom and offers a full range of wine, beer, spirits, and everything else you’d expect to go with those items.
